Heartbreaking...! Through a friend on FB I was connected to a woman who is on the road in north Florida with her husband, 3 kids and dog, trying to find shelter from Matthew. They are in Tallahassee right now, hoping to find someplace to ride it out, but everything is full. I even suggested that they go to a WalMart and buy a tent. Please pray that Audra and her family find someplace to stay. Tell her to find a church and don't hesitate on it's denomination. Tell her to think of her kids instead.

Well as I said these things are fickle. Appears SC under the gun now. Seems it keeps moving more northerly. It will still be tough for FL and Georgia.
What makes this type of storm so bad is the way it's moving and racking as it goes. ALL points are in the bad part of the storm ie: storm surge where the ccr moves the water into shore. When storms come into a northern Gulf area the upper right quadrant is the most dangerous. This is usually a smaller area. Mississippi was in Katrina's upper right quadrant as it came up the Pearl River.
Matthew's upper left quadrant is what's is bad now for everywhere it's moving.
Outages in FL may not be as bad as originally thought but SC might be really bad.
Prayers continue for all.
Jimmy

My company is staging in south Georgia. There will be a record number of outages. One needs gas (generators), food and water for a minimum of 2 weeks. At this point. We had the power back on with 12,000 contractors in 12 days. We're talking about 190,000 customers. This is going to be epic. It will get medieval. Personal protection should be in place. This one is gonna make Katrina look like a walk in the park if it holds course and power. They have our folks set up to stay 3-5 weeks. Hope they are wrong. Jimmy weather.com/news/news/hurricane-matthew-floridaAlready nearly matching that 190,000 and it's just barely begun... Up to over 500k out now. Jimmy

Up to over 500k out now. Jimmy Seen numbers up to 700k. 500k is bad enough. It's too early for it to be cool there yet, heat stress is going to be a problem without power.

The City of North Charleston, Charleston, and Town of James Island are issuing a mandatory curfew from 12 a.m., Friday, October 7 to 6 a.m. I'm surprised they are waiting so late at night!

I don't mind people staying as long as they understand NOBODY will be coming to save their butts and no litigation is allowed after the fact. If you make that choice, IT'S YOURS.

Aiken started getting rain about 4PM
only expecting 3 to 6 inches, which will flood some low areas
we (SC)have areas where ground water levels are on the surface, think "swampfox" lots of "blackwater" areas even this far inland
about 110 miles to the ocean as the crow flies
we will have 50 MPH winds starting early Sat morning til Sun AM, but we had 60 MPH from the TS last month that came from the gulf, most of the tree limbs and loose stuff that was going to get blown down already went down
both houses set on hills and all of the pines have long been cleared away
the "bottom" between us will run water but its 30 yards and about 10 feet lower than the livestock and 100 yards and 30' lower than the houses
we should be fine here
prayers sent to all who won't (even the stupid ones)
already saw news where some on barrier islands around Hilton Head had been told to evac and didn't than have called for help and been told they have to wait until Sunday now. (as it should be, they were told)

We decided NOT to go to South Carolina next week. I didn't want to take a hotel room away from someone that needed it. We will be heading to Great Smokies on a more direct route.
I heard that the first casualty in the US was someone that had a heart attack and emergency staff couldn't get to them. That is something that people don't think about. You have a medical emergency and the usual emergency help is not there. It could be a heart attack or a cut and serious bleeding.
Everyone stay safe.
