Sadly, apparently Katrina die hards and stragglers didn't teach some people a valuable lesson. This is definitely NOT a force to play around with cause you might be inconvenienced.

Jimmy, I think your comments are really important, so I hope you don't mind that I copied/pasted to my Facebook page. I left off your name. If you object please let me know asap and I will gladly delete the post. That's fine. Understand Florida and Georgia are really going to get hammered. Yes SC is going to get it but conditions should not be as good for the storm. Only issue is storm surge for SC low country. I'm hearing Jacksonville may be the epicenter. These damn storms are fickle but are getting more predictable. Not perfect by no means. But back up to the '47 storm and Galveston and we are light years ahead. On the coastal areas storm surge is the biggie. Inland are the tornados. If one chooses to stay, PFDs, good shoes, rope and belt attached water bottles. Two 1 lt ones preferably. A bicycle helmet is a good idea also. Too many stories of people floating in away....lots of debris in the water. Jimmy

Oh sweet mother of pearl. I just heard that the governor of SC ordered the evacuation of Charleston. At this late a date, it's going to be parking lots, not escape routes. I shudder to think what this is going to do to beautiful, historic Charleston, toll on human lives aside. Please continue to pray for my friend Dorna, who lives in Charleston suburb Summerville, and my other friend Sue, who posted that having left Orlando for Tampa was just outside FT MYERS (which is 170+ miles southwest of Orlando!) so I hope she meant to say Ft Meade and had a brain fart. Governor Haley started evacuations Wednesday afternoon (3pm). At this point, only 195,000 have evacuated. She's p.o.'d and let the state know that is not enough. School buses were sent to evacuate those who had no way, or no where to go. They will be taken to shelters in other parts of the state. The main interstate leading into Charleston (I-26, east and west) is one way, as of yesterday afternoon. People aren't taking this seriously and are staying put, or waiting until the last minute to leave. Our bunch here understands the need to be ready....95% of everyone else...not so much. One lives on the Gulf or Atlantic coasts, they should have a store kit ready in June and ready to load in short time. These frigging storms do not take prisoners... Jimmy

My family has plans to head into SC on Monday. It looks like we might have to change plans. We were going to spend the first night just south of Charlotte (Monday night). So we will see what Matthew does and also check the hotel.

My friend Sue made it safely to Tampa. I have still not heard a word from Dorna, the South Carolina friend. Your prayers are coveted and greatly appreciated.

One thing that has me watching even harder, I've noticed my dogs acting "out of sorts". It's like they know something is coming. We've been through hurricanes before and they never acted like this before. Hmmmmmm

Heartbreaking...! Through a friend on FB I was connected to a woman who is on the road in north Florida with her husband, 3 kids and dog, trying to find shelter from Matthew. They are in Tallahassee right now, hoping to find someplace to ride it out, but everything is full. I even suggested that they go to a WalMart and buy a tent. Please pray that Audra and her family find someplace to stay.

My company is staging in south Georgia. There will be a record number of outages. One needs gas (generators), food and water for a minimum of 2 weeks. At this point. We had the power back on with 12,000 contractors in 12 days. We're talking about 190,000 customers. This is going to be epic. It will get medieval. Personal protection should be in place. This one is gonna make Katrina look like a walk in the park if it holds course and power. They have our folks set up to stay 3-5 weeks. Hope they are wrong. Jimmy weather.com/news/news/hurricane-matthew-floridaAlready nearly matching that 190,000 and it's just barely begun...

Lots of rain and wind right now. Prediction that it will be at its height around 2PM. I'm actually in one of the higher areas in Jacksonville (23 feet IIRC). I'll check in when I can. Will probably turn off electronics later.
