Wow, that's some great info for Cman to know. What about Camp LeJeune in N.C.? That's where my grandson is stationed.

Camp L isn't exactly better. They got put in the public eye in a bad way a number of years ago because of their housing issues and water contamination.
For everyone on here we found a water brand we're familiar with from back home (Poland Spring) and we also have a filter on our kitchen sink that we originally bought back in New Orleans. I haven't touched tap water here at all even though we've already had multiple black flag days (90+ degrees temperature-wise).

You must be getting pretty ripe in all that humidity

Less humid here. Not exactly cooler, but then again New Orleans would get blasted by the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River.

Well it's eight days today since I've gone for an outing. I believe I'll be able to shift gears and turn the wheel with no problems. Planned on trying to go to town only my brother cashed in on a jambalaya I promised to cook for him. Couldn't renege on my promise, he's been a big help to me in the first few days since my surgery. He diced the ingredients and I threw it in the pot. Once the onions etc. were all cooked down I added the rice and water, then the sausage. The aroma is making me more hungry. Oh well, maybe I'll get to town tomorrow.

Today I had decided to visit a childhood friend. She is my age and her younger sister is two years younger than we are. We lived across the street from each other, had sleepovers, went to school together, everything you can think of we did together. After we all married and went our separate ways we seldom saw each other, you know how that goes.
I met her younger sister about a month ago. She told me her sister was in a nursing home. Her husband and daughter are not aware of her location for her own safety. She lived with an abusive husband and their adopted daughter depleted their savings to buy drugs but her mom didn't have the heart to have her arrested. Her husband now has a restraining order on him which family members sought for my friends behalf cuz she was in denial and blaming herself for the abuse. Lastly she's had three strokes. The strokes took their toll.
So today was the day to visit my friend. If I didn't know this person there is very little to remind me of how she used to look. I'm glad I went visit her but at the same time, to see her looking like she does just broke my heart. She has a skeletal frame with sunken eyes. I wanted to cry. I wanted to hold her. I wanted her to laugh. I wanted her to talk to me. She didn't even know me. Her aide tried getting her to sit up to talk to me but she just wanted to sleep.
I won't go back, It hurts me too much to see my friend in this condition. I rather remember her from our childhood days and remember the good times we shared together growing up.
I had to tell someone, thanks for listening.

That’s tough. Seeing old friends like that is especially rough. Glad you went but I understand not going back.

CL so sorry for the very difficult day. But you tried hard and now I know you will continue to pray for her. Somewhere along the line she made some really poor decisions; now we need to help her through prayers.
You have a very kind heart.

Would y'all believe I finally drove to NOLA today? So for the next few days I'll be hanging loose here for however long.
I'm in my element here and the price is right for staying as long as I'd like.
The trip got postponed till the heat dies some.

So here I sit imagining CL's truck with a large-print round sign on each wheel, "Bon temps"... I wonder how many folks would beep their horns at you in agreement?

We, on the other hand, are still waiting for the (glacial-speed) contracts to be ready so we can sign, go to SD, etc. etc. etc. The moving estimate arrived in the email... yipe!

My inlaws moved from MA to AZ a couple of years ago. They ended up taking a lot less than they planned because of the cost. My FIL said they charge by the pound so it was cheaper for him to leave most of his tools behind and just buy new ones when they got there.

Yesterday (by this point) I got to actually meet up and really chat with a Marine I knew in Okinawa who played trumpet, but is now a commissioned officer and commands two platoons in one of the units out here. I learned more details about why one of the best Marines I ever knew took his own life back in 2009. The details make me almost unspeakably angry at my former chain of command out there (they had a lot to do with the details), but I'm also glad I finally learned of the reasons why he took his life.
On a better note I got my bicycle repaired and tuned up by a solid repairman out here, and had a great time riding again after months of not doing so.

Well I'm back home again. It was a whirlwind of events while in NOLA. Besides eating many healthy meals prepared by my niece, we visited Vietnamese, Indian and of course Commander's Palace restaurants. All were great treats. Had my makeup done by Dory at Saks Fifth Avenue which only a woman can appreciate. Visited an antique shop with many interesting furnishings displayed. My favorites were two table sets carved out of solid teak wood. Thought of TW when I saw these, very rustic looking which is a design I really like. Went to the "Y" and had a workout of my life. Oh what a feeling the next day. Saturday night we headed to Mississippi. While there I was able to visit with Mississip and get a personal tour of his "man cave". His usage of the tool box as a kitchen work area and storage is a brilliant idea and fits with the man cave theme. Yesterday I drove back home. My grandson is on military leave. He, his younger brother and my daughter left this morning heading to Camp Lejeune, N.C. to visit his twin. In order for many of us to visit with him and celebrate my birthday, he had made reservations at a local restaurant. Quite a few members of my family were there which was a great way to finish my whirlwind of events and a great way to celebrate.
