I think in addition there have been over 3 million new guns purchased in the last 8-10 months and that in itself will create somewhat of a shortage.. Just imagine if only 250,000 of those were .22 rifles and each buyer bought 3 boxes of .22lr shells. Now think about how many of those pistols were 9mm or .40s.. probably two very popular calibers in handguns. same thing with ammo Just my thoughts on it
I do think there is a lot of back loading dock buying too. Academy they line up on the day they get ammo 1.5 hours before the store opens. WM doesn't even get it on the shelf. They put it in a buggy, roll it out and sell it FROM that buggy..

That's the "People have been buying ammo in unprecedented quantities after obama's re-election." part. The majority of those 3 million new guns are post obama election.

It is really hard for the peons to launch a civil up rising without ammo. They can't take the guns, but they can shut off the bullets.

I have been buying anything related to it for some time. Prices have gone up a little maybe 15-20% in my area, and mostly what is available is the lesser quality stuff.

Seems the panic has even carried over into the prepared.....If you see it buy it!
Never used to bother walking through the sporting goods section at stores...have been doing it lately...LOL, you know, just to see how much is there..
Learned my lesson back in 2008 as far a re-loading components go, in particular primers. Prices jumped to $60 bucks per thousand, BUT I had an order in for several different kinds to Cabela's. As it eased up, they filled my order, once piece at a time, at the old original price, and shipped them out, with them picking up the hazmat fee each time....all the while they kept e-mailing me to maybe canceling my order.
Was eventually filled in about a years time....although I did cancel an order for 200 gr round nose Sierra bullets for the .35 Remington.
I would hope that being a little bit more intuned to prepping, most of y'all should be in good shape....for now....but agree that the future is uncertain.

You are correct hunter....we as preppers should be ok in this regard....Other than my new rifle, I have plenty....but just would like the shortage issue to go away...it's not that I can't get much of anything...it's what it repersents as to what is going on.... ………………………………………………………….. You are correct hunter....we as preppers should be ok in this regard..................................................................... Jimmy Jimmy, You would think so, but based on the responses to cwi's 12ga ammo poll, I have to wonder. As versatile as shotguns are, people didn't think that they need to have much ammo put up. You already know that if I still owned guns, I wouldn't feel like I had enough ammo - until I had I enough to be truly enough Come heck or high water, prices will double, quadruple and much worse over time. Why in the heck would someone not want to build a hedge against inflation/taxes/shortages/legislative changes. Regardless of what the mall ninja's expound, ammo will be a truly valuable barter item among friends and neighbors as we slide into the next depression. But, hey - I know that our Government has my personal freedom, safety and general well being at heart, so I don't need own guns or years worth of ammo distributed in multiple locations near and far. Plus, that would seem really extreme to most folks. Marc

As much as I don't want to have a direct conflict with the ones who may try to take my arms, I will. I'll be the one you read about on the news. "MAN TRIES TO AVOID GUN CONFISCATION TODAY. DIES IN A GUNFIGHT WITH AUTHORITIES ". Screw ‘em. We got to start somewhere…. Jimmy

Oh, I do agree, Sir. I've never sold a gun, nor a single round of ammunition in my life. I've given some as gifts, long term loaned some as needed and just plain forgot where I left a whole bunch. But I seriously doubt that I'll ever have one taken from me because of a new law. This part of Texas is still America and folks act like, at least for now.
Walmart had 5 boxes of Federal 150 gr soft point .30-06 this morning. I didn't price it because I was busy eying the (100) round boxes of .223, .357 magnum in (100) round boxes and 7mm mag. There wasn't as much of those calibers when I left, so someone and his wife must of bought their 6 box limit. Some people even go back at lunch time when a different clerk is working, so they can get another 6 boxes. Imagine that!
Probably some of them prepper types...............

It is now ~4 months into the shortages. That makes one thing perfectly clear, the predictions of it being over in a month or two were wrong. There is a trickle flow of 5.56, .308, 7.62x39, with something less than that for most common handgun calibers. 12 gauge is sporadic, but the surprise to most folks was the 22lr.
Speaking of, there is a missing element to the 22lr shortage/disappearance. There are a lot of viable theories, explanations, etc on it, but none of them, even added when considered collectively, cover the 22lr as a whole.

Sounds like your area is starting to come around too, as far as ammo starting to show up. I do love Texas! The 3006 150s is what I have been after since my new purchase. A box here and a box there... I love them prepper types..... ;D Jimmy
