Last Sunday I put 100 each of .357/.38 downrange and started working on increasing my longer distance shots, freehand. Just got back a few minutes ago from the range while visiting my daughter here in Fort Polk, LA. I went through (100) .38's and (50) .357/58gr JSP. I was ringing a 14" steel plate at 75 yards 4-5 out of every 6, with my 4" GP-100 shooting single action. Also did pretty well with my wife's tiny LCR-357 on the 4" popup disks at 17 yards, but I have a major tendency to pull 3"-4" low. The recoil on that little 17 ounce gun is pretty snappy with 158gr magnum loads, but my wife easily handles it with Winchester PDX 130gr in .38 +P I've learned that ultimately the limitation is me - not the gun or ammo. I sure like the grips on that 100. Wondering if you always shoot the LCR after the 100 and if that could be why you pull low? Different weight and trigger pull? That limitation thingy? I've found that's true with all my tools. Particularly my hammer earlier this year.

I really would like to have that GP. Heavy made, sturdy. Not the fanciest girl at the dance, but at least you know she can plow a field.

USCG when Okie says he'd like to have a gun it's usually just rhetorical cause he's probably already found one or he just hasn't looked deep enough into his safe. Why just yesterday he was telling me Atwoods Farm Supply had Hi Points for $169. Ha. Like I'd trade my RG .22 for a Hi Point. LOL. The man finds more guns than you can shake a stick at. And every once in awhile he grabs one.

Doesn't come in a .357 apparently. Mostly larger calibers so I don't think the comparison (or choice) to a python is a good one. Apples/oranges. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_Raging_Bull

And yes I'd take it over a python... Never liked colt revolvers other than the SAA

Why pray tell? I realize Colt Pythons are cost prohibitive these days but, they are pretty much revered as one of the best manufactured pistols of all time. Not a criticism mid you, I respect your opinion X, I know you have A LOT moe time on the trigger than I do. FWIW, I agree the 686 should be at the top. Probably the best gun Smith ever made if you ask me.

I've never owned a Colt revolver, but I agree on the 686 - likely the best .357 magnum built. The 586 and 686 are two of only a very few Smith's that I would feel comfortable, steadily feeding 110gr to 180gr .357 magnum rounds. I am totally comfortable doing that with my GP-100.
I had a chance to shoot a Taurus .357 Mag literally just this morning. It had a 6.5" vent rib barrel - ported - which really eased the recoil and gave me a great sight picture. It was a nice shooter - I liked the gun a lot. I would guess the trigger pull at 10lb. DA and 5lb. SA, so I would want the trigger brought down to to 2.5 lb. to 3 lb. on single action. (I'm fine with a heavier 9-11 lbs. on double action, as long it is smooth)
The same guy also had a .44 Mag Taurus, but he was out of ammo, so I didn't get to try it.

That limitation thingy? I've found that's true with all my tools. Particularly my hammer earlier this year. I do believe that you are correct on all accounts. I do always shoot mine first, then Stacey's after. The trigger on her LCR is typical DAO loooooong and maybe 10-11 lbs vs. 2.5 lbs. in SA mode on my GP-100 and it weighs almost nothing. I just feel like I should be able to shift/adjust/compensate faster between guns. Time to burn more ammo!
