The reason Walmart's ammo availability is weak is two fold IMO. 1. Lower prices = people go their first = empty shelves. 2. Walmart refused price increases from the manufacturers. As you may know - to get on the shelves at Walmart you have to not only be able to produce the contractual volume of merchandise, but are also locked in (via contract) on pricing. Since the manufacturers couldn't charge more to Walmart they delivered the bare minimum as required by contract and sold at higher prices to other outlets. My comments only reflect reality, and are not a dig at businesses or suppliers for raising prices. Supply and demand works - it just sucks when it affects you and me.

Well, I stopped by Walmart on my way in this morning. I haven't seen the shelves this full since before the panic.
I bought Federal Auto Match .22lr 40 gr in (325)rd boxes for 4.5 cents per round and Federal .223 55gr in (100)rd boxes for 35 cents per round.
I was limited to three each, but at that price, I asked my wife to buy the same. They still had lots of bulk packs of each when she left, and people were trickling in. They had lots of 45/40/9/380/38spl but no 357 mag or Sig. Lots and lots of 243, 270, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm, 7.62x39 and 300 mag.
The employee that I spoke with, said that shipments arrive overnight, and all of the popular handgun/rifle ammo is generally gone by 8:00 AM. He commented that they had gone through about 60 bulk packs of (555) Federal .22lr yesterday and would blow through close to 70 bulk packs of (325) .22lr Auto Match this morning. I'd say that they are selling a whole lot of ammo in my booming city of 7,000 people.

I was in two different WMs yesterday and nothing. Just a few boxes of 300 mag and some 270. That was it. Seems certain parts of the country are still getting nothing...

If that is the case, who are they? I haven't found any other major outlets with Walmarts undelivered share. Least not between New Orleans to Jackson to Mobile. And that is a serious question. As I would want to do some business with them. Jimmy

Academy has been getting regular shipments but you only get one box of each caliber and then only three total boxes (well depending on much you sweet talk the cashier.. assuming in my case, it was a woman.. the guy was a real pain and thought I was hitting on him and I just wanted another box of .22.. idiot.. lol. I'm just kidding)

My favorite - Shooters of Jacksonville - is still running sales on ammo. While they have every caliber - pricing on the harder to source stuff (my supply and demand comment) is high. www.shootersjax.com/

Jimmy, Aside from your '06, what do you shoot? I can't remember if you are a .40 or .45 guy........ I'm a simple kinda of guy...lol 22, 40, 12 and 06. The 06 has now dried up around here, mostly. Oh there is some at some of the big box sports stores, but not worth the 45 mile trip to pick up one box (limit). Plenty of 12 around, even some buck. But 40 and 22, haven't seen any around these parts since before new years. Having said all that, I have plenty, but would just like to be able to enter the stores we always bought ammo from and be able to purchase what I want/need. Now having said that, it reminds me of the gouging that takes place after a hurricane, fuel prices. The the fuel price gouging affects everything else, food, durable goods. Sorry didn't mean to get off on that tangent. Greedy foreign oil suppliers are what started my prepping in 1973.... I have to make a trip to Hattiesburg this week for materials, I'm gonna make a swing by some of the big box stores and see what they got. Jimmy

Yep, it's really coming back.
This morning at 7:15 AM, my only local Walmart had all of the standard rifle calibers from .223 to 300 mag, including .30-30. They also had 9mm/.40/.45. /44 mag/38 special. No 380, 357 Sig or Mag.
My wife and I left with three (100) round bulk packs of Federal .223 and three (555) round bulk packs of Federal .22 lr hollow point.
I stopped by on my way home and they were just putting out boxes of Winchester high velocity .223 jacketed hollow point in 45gr, rated for 3600 fps. (Still supersonic at 500 yards with a 24" barrel) So, yeah - I have four boxes of (40) that I've never tried.

It's NOT coming back in South Florida. Went into a gun store the other day and he was selling .22 LR, 50 to a box.. $9.89. I asked him about bricks and he said he can never get them and if he could they cost him $99 each and he sells them for $125. I hurt myself when I fell over on the floor. That's just crazy! Heck.. in that case I've got $375 under the kitchen sink. Just ridiculous..

I picked up two more bricks of (555) Federal .22lr in 36gr copper jacketed hollow points at my local Walmart yesterday for $22. each.
They had two more cases of ten boxes, when I left. Seems like Walmart is moving around fifty to seventy bricks per week in my town of 7,500 people. (The next closest Walmart is about 30 miles away.) Ammo isn't there everyday, but it is coming back.
Bricks of .22lr are a favorite gift to receive among the crowd of younger shooters in the family.

Though ammo doesn't seem to be coming back around here just yet, I think I saw some good signs yesterday in my closest WM. They have the ARs back in the gun display and at the same price as before. Plus both display cases were full. First time I've that in 7-8 months. I stopped back the magazine rack and they have 11 different gun mags now, where they only had 2-3 before. They had some 5.56 but no 22lr. Hoping not long tthings get back to normal. Jimmy

You know I'm not sure .22 LR will ever get back to normal.. maybe after a year or two. But that is such a popular caliber that after all of this I think people will buy it when they see it just because. That's how I ended up with my stash. I'd go past the ammo counter and pick up a brick now and then and set it aside. So I think it will take longer for .22 than any other caliber.

I don't think anybody ever thought you would not be able to find .22!
