The one line that stands out for me in that article.. 'If you’re like many Americans, you’ll comfortably ride this out until the market corrects.' It was that casual stop by the gun counter and pick up a box of ammo every once in awhile over the last 3 years that put me in that 'comfortable' position.

Stopped by Walmart on my way to work this morning to restock my first aid kit at the shop, so I just had to walk by the ammo shelves hoping to get more 12ga slugs and 00.
I left with 5 boxes of (325) Federal Automatch Target Grade 40gr, 1200 fps .22lr. I've shot a lot of this through 10/22 rifles and it's very good. Prices are definitely creeping up, but this was still in range for what it is - at $17.97/box (Just over $0.05/round) They had six cases with 20 bulk packs in each case: That's 39,000 rounds to sell in a town of 7500 people.
Yep - it's slowing coming back. The scalpers can't double their money anymore, so they aren't there every morning sucking it all up.

I think ammo is coming back.. (but certainly no value prices here in central florida.. it's just stupid crazy here $9.99 for a box of .22lr, 50 count.. and they don't have any in stock) I'm thinking it won't go back down to previous pricing (think gasoline) but it'll be better than the last 8-9 months. SO HERE IS THE CURRENT SHORTAGE... what do you think? ‘Reloading’: The Booming Gun Hobby and What It Could Mean for the Ammunition Industry Jul. 18, 2013 8:13am Becket Adams Experts Say Reloading Is Booming: What Does This Mean for the Ammunition Industry? Getty Images. If you are a gun owner, chances are you are familiar with the nationwide shortage of ammunition. You may have even thought about trying to save cash by learning to reload your own bullets. You’re not alone: shooters across the country are turning to the hobby simply known as “reloading.” “It’s booming,” said SafeSide, LLC., owner and National Rifle Association instructor and training counselor Lynn Garnand. “The uptick, the demand for classes in reloading is huge. My business is primarily training in the reloading world and I also make reloaded ammunition commercially,” he told TheBlaze in a phone interview. “I can’t keep up on either front.” Coupled with increasing costs, ammunition shortages have driven many gun owners to sign up for reloading classes. Garnand, who is based out of Wisconsin, told TheBlaze his classes are either “packed” or completely sold out. “People want to get into them because they can’t find ammunition any other way,” said Garnand. “This year versus last year — my business has easily doubled.” www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/07/18/reloading-the-booming-gun-hobby-and-what-it-could-mean-for-the-ammunition-industry/

The Cabela's up in our capital was my best indicator about ammo coming back. The only caliber they put a buying limit on was anything in .22 rimfire. It was also the only section of ammo that was almost gone. Even the .223/5.56 is very-well stocked.

Last Saturday, we stopped by an Academy Sports store about 60 miles from home while visiting our daughter. The ammo section had a lot of E V E R Y T H I N G in stock, I couldn't think of one caliber that was missing from the normal stock. Prices were about in line with pre-panic costs. I was like a kid in a candy store.........
We only bought what we could swing without resorting to a credit card: A few bricks of .22lr and a few 100 round bulk packs of 357mag and 223. (I don't use 9mm, but they had 50 round boxes of brass cased Monarch 115gr fmj for $10./box)
A sure sign that supplies are catching up: The internet scalpers are dumping product fast. Yesterday I bought Magpul-30 Gen 2 .223/5.56 magazines for $9.00 each - still in the wrapper. The guy was getting rid of 200 of them in a hurry because they are rapidly coming back into stock. I don't have the money, but I'm seeing a lot of real deals as scalpers dump brand new AR's to avoid getting stuck with them.
Now that I have a basic supply back in place, I can go back to just buying a couple of boxes now and then.

Went to a gun show this past weekend and one of the ammo dealers (Georgia Arms) that has been absent for about a year was there. It was nice to have them back --- and with reasonable pricing.
22lr was still $90 a brick (not offered by GA Arms) - didn't see any moving.

I wonder if all those guys who bought their $2000 baseline ARs are needing to off load them to pay down that Visa bill?
